Which Telegram links work in a QR code
| You want people to open | Link format |
|---|---|
| A public channel, group or profile | https://t.me/username |
| A private channel or group | The invite link, https://t.me/+code |
| A bot, with a tracking value | https://t.me/botname?start=value |
A bot start parameter can use A-Z, a-z, 0-9, _ and -, up to 64 characters, according to Telegram's bot documentation. Use a different value on each flyer or ad to see which one brings users.

Tips for a QR code that scans
- Keep the white border around the code; scanners need it.
- Print it at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide, and larger if people scan it from a distance.
- Use dark modules on a light background. A light code on a dark background does not scan on every phone.
- Test the printed code with two different phones before you print many copies.
- If an invite link is revoked or expires, the QR code stops working; see invite link expired.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a QR code for my Telegram channel?
Enter the channel's username or t.me link above, choose a size and color and download the PNG. Scanning it opens the channel in Telegram.
Can I make a QR code for a private group?
Yes. Use the group's invite link (t.me/+...). If you revoke the link or it expires, the QR code stops working.
Does a Telegram QR code expire?
The image itself never expires. It works as long as the link inside it works: public usernames keep working while you keep the username.
What is a bot start parameter?
A short value added to a bot link as ?start=value. The bot receives it when the user presses Start, so you can see which flyer or ad brought them.
Is my link sent anywhere?
No. The QR code is drawn in your browser.
