The TikTok engagement rate formula
- By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves per video) ÷ average views × 100.
- By followers: the same interactions ÷ followers × 100. It can exceed 100% when videos go far beyond your followers.
Example: 1,200 likes and 40 comments on videos averaging 20,000 views give (1,200 + 40) ÷ 20,000 = 6.2% by views.
Where to find the numbers
- Views, likes, comments, shares and saves are shown on each video.
- Average 10 to 20 recent videos and leave out one-off viral hits.
Checking an account before you buy or partner
- Steady views across videos matter more than one viral video.
- Many followers with low views per video often means the audience is inactive.
- Accounts with an existing audience are listed on TikTok accounts for sale.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate TikTok engagement rate?
Add the average likes, comments, shares and saves per video, divide by average views and multiply by 100. Dividing by followers gives the rate by followers.
Should I use views or followers for TikTok?
Views. Most TikTok views come from the For You feed, so followers say less about how a video performs.
Why is my engagement rate by followers above 100%?
Your videos reach many people who do not follow you, so interactions can exceed your follower count.
Can I check someone else's TikTok engagement rate?
Yes. Views, likes, comments and shares are public on each video.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser.
