Deleting a channel removes it and all its posts for every subscriber, and Telegram cannot bring it back. Before you do it, check whether making it private, handing it over or selling it would serve you better.

1. Who can delete a channel?
- Only the owner can delete a channel: the account that created it or received ownership.
- Admins cannot delete a channel, even with every other right.
- You cannot delete someone else's channel. If it is abusive or a scam, report it from the channel menu, then leave or block it.

Telegram's developer documentation says it refuses to delete channels with more than 1,000 members, and notes that this limit may change. If deleting fails on a large channel:
- Switch it to private and remove the public link, so new people cannot find it.
- Delete the posts you no longer want online.
- Transfer ownership to another account, or sell the channel to a buyer.
4. What happens if you delete your account first?
Telegram's FAQ says that when you delete your account, the groups and channels you created are orphaned: they stay online without a creator, and admins keep their rights. With no owner left, nobody can delete them, so delete or hand over your channels before you delete the account.

5. Before you delete: keep the value
- Back up posts and media you want to keep, for example with the export in Telegram Desktop.
- Hand the channel to someone you trust with an ownership transfer.
- An old channel keeps a value of its own, because its creation date cannot be faked. Buyers look for channels from earlier years even with few subscribers.
