Ownership of a YouTube channel follows the Google account behind it. If the channel sits on a Brand Account, owners can be added and removed without anyone sharing a personal Google login.
1. Make sure the channel uses a Brand Account
A channel tied directly to someone's personal Google account cannot be transferred cleanly. The seller first moves it to a Brand Account in YouTube's advanced settings. A channel already on a Brand Account shows a Manage permissions option in the Google account's Brand Account settings.
2. Transfer steps
- The seller opens the Brand Account settings and chooses Manage permissions.
- The seller invites the buyer's Google account with the Owner role. The buyer accepts the email invitation.
- Google requires a new owner to have been an owner for 7 days before becoming primary owner. Plan the payment around this wait.
- After the wait, the seller transfers primary ownership to the buyer.
- The buyer removes the seller and any other managers, and checks the channel's recovery email and phone.
3. Monetization and AdSense
- Earnings go to the AdSense account linked to the channel. The buyer links their own AdSense account in YouTube Studio → Earn.
- Changing the linked AdSense account can trigger a review of a monetized channel. Expect a pause rather than an instant switch.
- Monetization depends on the channel continuing to follow YouTube's policies; check the requirements in YouTube monetization requirements.
4. Buyer checklist
- Ask for a screen recording of YouTube Studio: subscribers, watch hours, revenue and any copyright or Community Guidelines strikes.
- Check the analytics yourself after you are added as an owner, before primary ownership moves.
- Use escrow and release payment only after you are primary owner and the seller is removed.
- Estimate what the channel can earn with the YouTube money calculator using its real RPM.

Frequently asked questions
Can you transfer a YouTube channel to another account?
Yes, if the channel is on a Brand Account. The current owner adds the new Google account as an owner, and after Google's 7-day wait transfers primary ownership.
Why do I have to wait 7 days to become primary owner?
Google requires a new owner to hold the owner role for 7 days before becoming primary owner, as a security measure against account takeovers.
Do subscribers and videos stay after a transfer?
Yes. Ownership changes the people who manage the channel; subscribers, videos, comments and the channel URL stay the same.
Does monetization continue after transferring a channel?
The buyer links their own AdSense account. That can trigger a review, so a short pause in payments is normal.
