Someone wants to buy your username? Check the offer before you reply.

Unsolicited offers for Telegram usernames are a common opening for scams. A real sale needs nothing from you except the username itself, and it happens on Fragment, not in a private chat.

Fragment is the platform Telegram users rely on to buy and sell collectible usernames. It runs on TON wallets and public auctions or direct sales. Anyone who wants to buy your username can do it there, so pressure to use another site, bot or payment route is the first warning sign.

How a real username sale works

  • According to Fragment's own explanation, you can convert an existing username into a collectible, then sell it or start an auction, and the collectible lives in your TON wallet.
  • To assign or manage it you connect your Telegram account and your wallet to Fragment itself, at fragment.com.
  • After a sale, the collectible moves to the buyer's wallet. Nothing in this process requires your Telegram login code, your password or your wallet's secret words.

Fragment's guide reminds users that a wallet's list of secret words is the equivalent of a password and must be kept safe. Nobody, including a buyer, needs to see it.

Common username scams

What you are toldWhat is really happening
"I'll pay a lot for your username, just open this Fragment link"A look-alike site that steals your Telegram session or wallet
"Connect your wallet to confirm the sale"A transaction that drains your wallet or transfers your collectibles
"Pay a small fee or deposit to unlock the payment"Advance-fee fraud: the buyer never pays
"Send me the code Telegram just sent you"Account takeover: the code logs the scammer into your account
"Our escrow bot will hold the money"A fake bot or middleman controlled by the scammer
A message from "Fragment support" or "Telegram support"Impersonation; check the account with the verification guide

Check an offer in five steps

  1. Do not click links in the message. Type fragment.com yourself.
  2. Ask the buyer to bid on Fragment. A real buyer can place a bid or buy there; a scammer will invent reasons not to.
  3. Never share a login code, 2FA password or wallet secret words.
  4. Never pay anything to receive a payment.
  5. Read every wallet request before approving it. If you do not understand what a transaction does, reject it.

Already clicked a link or shared a code? Open Settings → Devices, terminate sessions you do not recognise, change your 2FA password and see how to protect a channel from theft.

Selling a username safely

  • Use Fragment's own auction or direct sale, opened from fragment.com.
  • Keep two-step verification on and your wallet's secret words offline.
  • If the username belongs to a channel you are also selling, agree in writing whether it is included; see Fragment usernames and the handover checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a scam if someone wants to buy my Telegram username?

Not always, but unsolicited offers are a common start of scams. A genuine buyer can bid on Fragment; be suspicious of links, wallet-connect requests, fees or requests for codes.

Where are Telegram usernames sold?

On Fragment (fragment.com), where existing usernames can be converted into collectibles and sold by auction or direct sale.

Does a buyer need my login code to buy my username?

No. Never share a Telegram login code, 2FA password or wallet secret words with anyone.

I connected my wallet to a fake Fragment site. What now?

Move remaining funds and collectibles to a new wallet you control, end unknown Telegram sessions under Settings → Devices and change your 2FA password.

Can I sell my username without Fragment?

Usernames can be transferred between chats you own, but a sale with a stranger outside Fragment has no protection for either side.
