Instagram text limits
| Field | Limit |
|---|---|
| Caption | 2,200 characters |
| Hashtags per post | 30 (the long-standing limit) |
| Bio | 150 characters |
| Name | 30 characters |
Only about the first 125 characters of a caption show in the feed before "more", so put the hook first. Instagram can change its limits; if a post fails, check the app.
Why Instagram removes your line breaks
Instagram often collapses empty lines, so a caption written in short paragraphs arrives as one block. The fix fills each empty line with an invisible character (a Braille blank, U+2800) that Instagram keeps, and removes trailing spaces that also break the spacing. Your words are not changed.
Caption tips
- Lead with the most important sentence; the rest hides behind "more".
- Use a few relevant hashtags rather than the maximum.
- Style a heading with the Instagram font generator, but keep key information in plain text.
