How Instagram fonts work
Instagram does not let you choose a font for your bio. These styles are not fonts in the usual sense: each letter is swapped for a look-alike Unicode character (for example from the mathematical alphabets), which every phone can display. That is why the text keeps its style when you paste it anywhere.
Where you can paste them
- Bio and name: the bio and the Name field accept them. Your username (@handle) only allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so fancy letters will not work there.
- Captions, comments and stories: all accept them.
- Other apps: TikTok bios, X posts, Telegram channel descriptions and Discord all display them.
Use them sparingly
- Screen readers read many of these characters letter by letter or not at all, so keep important information in plain text.
- Instagram search does not match styled letters to normal ones; if you want to be found by name, keep your Name field mostly plain.
- A few older phones show some characters as empty boxes. The bold and italic styles are the most widely supported.

Frequently asked questions
How do I change the font in my Instagram bio?
Type your text in the generator, tap Copy next to the style you like, then paste it into Edit profile → Bio on Instagram.
Why do some letters show as boxes?
The phone viewing it lacks those Unicode characters. Bold, italic and sans-serif styles are supported almost everywhere; rarer styles may not be.
Can I use these fonts in my Instagram username?
No. Usernames only allow letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Use them in your Name field and bio instead.
Are these fonts free to use?
Yes. They are standard Unicode characters, free to copy and use anywhere.
